Sunday 24 March 2019

hello everyone,
A busy week back to school after March Break.
We are reminded that even though we all had a nice break from school we are still in the Lenten season.

In Math, our focus is measurement.

We have been practising using a cm ruler and a metre stick to measure things in our everyday world. Our goal is to be able to move comfortably between measurement units such as going from more than a hundred centimetres to converting it to m. Ask your child what convert or conversion means and why we need to convert units at times?

In Language, we have moved on to adventure story writing.
We have been using the trusty Go Map to break down stories we are reading to see if the story has all the essential parts needed for a good story. Ask your child to retell you the stories of Pirate Lee or Happy Birthday Pandemonium by using the categories in the Go map.
We are also looking at more interesting ways to be more imaginative with our quotation mark work.

We have started our unit in Family Life. So far, we have read about the Carson family parents sharing their lists of most important events in their lives with their 4 children. The first event that we read about and discussed was their marriage. I shared photos with the students of my own marriage. Besides having a good chuckle, I think the students were able to make some good connections! Next, we will move on to the birth of the Carson family's children as memorable events in a parent's life.

In Health, we moved from good oral care to prescription, non-prescription and illegal drugs. Your child may be home with questions for you. Just as a reference point, in grade 3, illegal drugs is presented as drugs such as tobacco and alcohol that have certain rules around them such as where they can be purchased, how old someone has to be to use them or what are the consequences are if the rules that are set in place are broken.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER.....

  • Please check your child's homework book for math assessments to be reviewed and signed
  • Please ensure your child is equipped with the clothing necessary for our wet and muddy recesses
  • Please return the Swim to Survive forms
  • Library books are always due back to the school every Tuesday so we are ready to take out books on Wednesday
